Did you know there are many natural remedies for allergies that have no side effects?
The top selling drugs for allergies are Zrytec, Allegra and Claritin. Here are just a few of their side effects (in order listed above): Fatigue, dizziness, vomiting, when taken by children, stomach upset, menstrual cramps, back pain, cough, stuffy nose, dizziness, fast, uneven heart rate, feeling like you might pass out, jaundice & seizures. Yikes, really???
Or, try any or all of these remedies with virtually no side effects!
The only side effects reported for herbs are if you happen to be allergic to a particular herb and it is in a formula. So do read the label and do not take a formula with any substance you have an allergy to.
These remedies are available at local health food stores, online retailers, and some of them are available at my office as well.
1.XClear Xylitol Nasal Spray. Spray 2-3 times a day, in each nostril, or after being exposed to dust, pollen, etc.
2. Nasal Emollient, Nose Oil. Helps lubricate sinus passages and opens the nose. Use 1-2 times a day, or as needed. You can also make this! Take 1oz food grade sesame, or olive oil, to 10 drops each eucalyptus, peppermint and thyme essential oil, in a dropper bottle.
3. Ultrasonic Humidfier. Important to keep sinuses moist if you live in a dry climate like I do.
4. HEPA or Ionic Air filter. Can reduce household dust and animal dander.
5. Zone 6, or Las Vegas Blend Homeopathic Remedy, if you live in the Southwest. If you are in a different climate, get the one for your area. This is very effective when allergies are primarily environmentally induced. Take under tongue, 15 min away from food or drink. Take every 2-3 hours the first three days, then 1-3 times a day until symptoms are gone. This can also be taken before, during and after exposure to pollens.
Chinese Herbal Formulas:
The most effective way to use these are to take a combination of the first four formulas, with the 5th on an as needed basis. If you order them in liquid, it is easy to mix all together. If you order pills, take the dose listed on each bottle 3-5 times a day until symptoms are gone.
A. Free & Easy Wanderer, Xiao Yao Wan. It is a formula to balance the system, the liver in particular, and to stop the recurrence of chronic allergies. It is not for symptomatic relief per se.
B. Bi Yan Pian. This is for non-watery, or thick, or yellow or brown sinus congestion, or post-nasal drip. Especially effective with the Nasal Emollient.
C. Ge Gen Tan/Kudzu Releasing Formula. This helps with watery eyes and nose.
D. Jade Screen Formula. This helps balance the immune system.
E. Pe Min Kan Wan, Chinese Seasonal Allergy Formula.Take dosage listed on bottle (each brand is different) as often as needed for watery sinuses and watery, itchy eyes. This is symptomatic relief only, not getting to the core of the imbalance.

And finally, if the above is not enough:
Limiting or Completely Eliminating Allergy Aggravating Foods! And I hate to be the one to tell you this!
Wheat, gluten products, grains, sugar, corn syrup, and related processed foods, MSG, aspartame, and non-raw dairy products. (raw dairy is often okay for some people, but dairy, in general, is phlegm producing) Sometimes eggs and nuts are also aggravating for allergies. See these sites for more info.
Oh, and regular, consistent acupuncture works very well too!
